SUSPENSION OF CDL LICENSE

A CDL driver is subject to stricter requirements of law than an ordinary passenger license in Ohio. For example, the blood alcohol content limit for an OVI or DUI while operating under a CDL is ½ (one half) that for a regular license. Further, if you have a CDL license and you are convicted for OVI or DUI, from operating a commercial vehicle or in your own private vehicle on your own time, you will receive a mandatory one (1) year license suspension.

CDL drivers may have their license terminated or suspended for a wide range of violations, including, but not limited to the following:

If convicted of any of the above while operating a vehicle placarded for hazardous materials, the disqualification increases to three years under 4506.16(B)6 of the ORC.

NOTE:  
  • Under Ohio's commercial driver's license law, any person who holds a CDL shall be deemed to have consented to such testing as is required of him/her by any state or jurisdiction.
  • • If any level of alcohol is detected, law enforcement can place a commercial driver out-of-service for 24 hours. It is illegal to operate a commercial vehicle with any alcohol in your system.  ***
